Morning Report: Steady Winds

Weather chart

From the comfort of our shoreside observation post, we note with great satisfaction that our racers are enjoying (if that's the word for it) steady favorable winds, carrying them toward Hawaii.  We expect to see the morning reports announcing at least a few spinnakers flying and great speeds.  Today and Thursday forecast what would be rather challenging gusty weather if we had starters heading out the gate, but we have no starts till Friday, when conditions are expected to moderate.

A high pressure zone is a little further south than we prefer, as the winds in that zone tend to be very light.  However, longer range forecasts show it moving back north where it belongs, driving ideal wind directions.  There is a significant difference between the US and European weather models in the longer-range forecasts, but experienced sailors treat anything more than six or seven days out with great skepticism. Still, those who make correct guesses based on these distinctions may profit greatly.
