Pt. Richmond, CA, April 6, 2015 – Pacific Cup Yacht Club (PCYC) and North Sails are pleased to announce North Sails’ sponsorship of the 2016 Pacific Cup yacht race from San Francisco,CA to Kaneohe, HI. North Sails will come onboard as a Division Sponsor of the Race, slated to start in a staggered format from San Francisco, CA between July 11-16, 2016.

"We are delighted to have North Sails as a Division Sponsor for the 2016 Pacific Cup,” said Gary Troxel, PCYC Commodore. “Their sales and sail care teams in the San Francisco Bay Area, Pacific Northwest and Hawaii bring an abundance of experience in this race, enabling them to provide insightful support to boat owners, from first-timers to race veterans," Troxel said.

“We are excited be part of what is known as the ‘fun’ race to Hawaii and my colleague, Pete McCormick, and I are available for race preparation, new sail consultation, mast tuning, sail setup, and whatever else we can do to help sailors prior to the start of the race,” said Seadon Wijsen, sales representative at the North Sails loft in Sausalito, CA. “The Pacific Cup is unique because it offers a lot of pre-race preparation and safety seminars which are perfect for teams who are new to ocean racing as well as the seasoned veterans. I completed my sixth Pacific Cup in 2014 onboard Swazik , (who placed 2nd overall), and I look forward to racing in the 2016 event,” Wijsen said.

North Sails representatives from Hawaii (Jim “Fuzz” Foster), Seattle (Jack Christiansen), Oregon (Kerry Poe) and Vancouver (Drew Mitchell) will also be available for consultation for owners and crew from their prospective regions who will be sailing in the 2,070 nm race. “There are 30 boats entered already and we expect the list to grow to 60+ boats for next year’s event,” said McCormick who has done the race three times.

“Now is a great time to start thinking about your sail inventory and we are here to help. Our teams can assess existing sail inventories for owners and crew and advise on new sail additions if they are needed,” McCormick said. “Since both Seadon and I have each done the race multiple times, we’d be happy to give advice to local boat owners who haven’t done the race before and to those who would like to improve their performance,” McCormick said. “The regatta organizers do an excellent job with this event and North Sails is really proud to be involved.”
