Alaska Airlines Announced as Sponsor of the 2018 Pacific Cup Race

Pt. Richmond, CA, June 1, 2017 – THE PACIFIC CUP YACHT CLUB (PCYC) IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE RETURN OF ALASKA AIRLINES AS THE OFFICIAL AIRLINE SPONSOR OF THE 2018 PACIFIC CUP RACE.

The Pacific Cup race, dubbed The FUN Race to Hawaii, is celebrating the 20th edition of the race.  We are proud to continue and enhance our relationship with Alaska Airlines for the third race in a row.  “It has been a true pleasure working with the Alaska Airlines team, and we are delighted to welcome them back as a sponsor of the 2018 Pacific Cup race,” stated Buzz Blackett, PCYC commodore.

Alaska Airlines will continue as a Division Sponsor, and as the presenting sponsor of the Pacific Offshore Academy series of four educational seminars designed to prepare the racers for a fun and safe race to Hawaii.  In addition, Alaska Airlines will play a key role in the pre-race PacCup Village events, hosting a popular Pacific Northwest themed night.

“We strongly believe in supporting the communities we serve, especially as we grow our Bay Area presence and routes through the acquisition of Virgin America. The summer of 2017 has been an exciting one for Alaska Airlines in the Bay Area, as we have celebrated the Summer of Love at the Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers, BottleRock, and now, the Pacific Cup. The educational mission of Pacific Cup, The FUN Race to Hawaii is a natural match for Alaska Airlines, and we are proud to again sponsor this great race,” explained Julie Kurtz, Alaska Airlines.

The 20th Pacific Cup race from San Francisco to Kaneohe, Hawaii is slated to start in a staggered format between July 9-13, 2018. Once again, Alaska Airlines will be sponsoring the Alaska Airlines racing division. The 2070 mile race includes 70 boats and almost 400 sailors with thousands of race fans following along online.

“Alaska Airlines involvement extends far beyond the race itself,” said Buzz Blackett, 2018 PCYC commodore.  “They play a key role in the education and preparation for our sailors to have a safe race, as well as sponsoring the Alaska Airlines Night at the PacCup Village prior to the start of the race where regional food from the Pacific Northwest and Alaska is featured, and roundtrip airfare to Alaska Airlines destinations are raffled off.  They also present the Alaska Airlines Racing Division awards during the Kaneohe Yacht Club Awards Dinner.  The support they provide to racers and their families by providing special discounted airfares to and from Honolulu has always been much appreciated.”
