Waimea Valley
I actually visited Waimea Valley twice. First with Mark, Connie, and Jessica, and then later with Travis and Michelle when they showed up. Waimea Valley is a botanical garden, with a waterfall and swimming pond at the end of the walk. The site is spectacular. Among the gardens are an archaeological site of a living area for ancient Hawaiians. The botanical gardens include a large hibiscus collection, along with thousands of other flowers and trees. And of course, at the end of the trail is the waterfall. Somewhat lame is that they require everyone to wear a lifevest, and there are quite a few people.

The one that didn’t get away
I mentioned earlier on the blog that we caught a fish the last day. Here are the details - about a 10 pound mahimahi. Cris filleted it up on our custom cutting board... see the full post

Finished!
Lots of details to follow, but we made it. Finished yesterday just after 7pm Hawaii time. It took to the last day, but we did catch a fish - we had super fresh mahimahi sashimi once we made it to the dock. What an experience - glad to be here. BTW 13 days, 8 hours, 16 minutes. Aloha, Tracy and crew

Pearl Harbor
After hiking Diamond head, Connie and Jessica went to the Zoo, and Mark and I went to Pearl Harbor. There are a number of exhibits to see at Pearl Harbor. The most famous would be the Arizona Memorial. Tickets for the Arizona were free, however tours of the USS Bowfin Submarine and USS Missouri Battleship were not. There are also 2 free Museums. We got our tickets for the Arizona, and while waiting for the scheduled time walked through the museum. The free museum is worthwhile, revealing a lot of history leading up to the attack. The actual Arizona memorial is closed. Instead, you get on a boat, and circle the memorial... see the full post

Hike to Diamond Head
As mentioned in my previous post, I spent several days sightseeing with Mark and his wonderful family. On Thursday the 26th, we hiked Diamond Head. Diamond Head is a crater to the east of Waikiki, with a peak overlooking the ocean. We got there early just as it was opening, and even then it was busy, but not overly so. The hike only took a couple hours, but involved some steep parts and many stairs. From the top, the crater formation is very easy to see. However from inside the valley it just looks like some hills surrounding you. There is a bunker at the top, mostly inside the mountain. The trail goes through the... see the full post
