Prospector6 September 2016Rolex Maxi Cup, Porto Cervo, ItalyWe won our first race. Simple as that. Surprised? You better believe it. But not as in we didn’t have the boat or the team to win. But more, we bought a boat two weeks ago, most of our team has never sailed a maxi (ok, mini maxi but it seems damn big to me), let alone competed in one at this level and winning wasn’t on the table. Yet we won.  You can check out the results here:http://www.yccsfiles.com/results/myrc16/m16mmr_1.htmlI won’t spend a lot of time with the blow... see the full post

Drake's Bay race/weekend
Ok - Drake's Bay race went off without a hitch.  Saturday was a nice sail out the Gate in 10-15kts, but then it got pretty light outside the Gate.  Just south of Duxbury Reef we switched from the #3 to the #1 which helped us pull away from the sport boats that were starting to catch up in the light winds.  About 8nm from Drake's Bay we were able to put up the A3 and horizoned all the boats near us.  Started at 1000 and finished just after 1600.  Our first time anchoring the new boat also went without issue (other than all the seaweed on the anchor line and anchor when we pulled it up Sunday... see the full post

Hurry Up and Wait
Hurry up and wait is an inherent aspect of all sail boat races, from Optis to Maxis.  We are currently in a shore postponement here at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup because the wind is blowing too hard in the racing area.  Instead of first warning signals at 1130, the race committee is keeping us in the barn hoping that winds will ease, allowing them to start us racing around 1430.  The Prospector team is scattered around the Yacht Club Costa Smerelda, checking out the amazing yachts here, havinga coffee in the café,  or just sitting in the shade people watching.  For Tery, Quinn, Lu and Scotty it... see the full post

Moonlight Marathon completed!
Moonlight Marathon completed!  39.5nm - took us just over 5.5 hours.  We had a great start in 18-20kt winds - single reef with the #3 jib.  Lead off the line and first around TI (except for the multihull that was racing too).  We close reached back to Hunter's Point and then put up the A3 and sailed that to the San Mateo Bridge.  At the bridge the wind was backing and getting lighter so we ditched the A3 and put up the A2 and sailed that to the finish.  First to finish at 22:31:56 (started at 1700) and corrected out 3rd.  A wet ride up the Bay in the ebb, but a beautiful sail home... see the full post

First races under
First races under the belt - SYC beer cans the last two weeks. Pursuit style racing, we're the last to start (lowest rated boat at a PHRF of 48). Past some boats two weeks ago, and even more last week. The new A3 spin is performing well, especially around the corner coming into Redwood Creek.

Doug’s 2016 Pacific Cup recap (Full version)
For those of you who don’t happen to follow Doug Johnstone on Facebook, you may have missed his excellent series of write-ups and recaps of the race from his perspective as navigator on Express 37 Limitless for 2016 Pacific Cup.  Below is a copy/paste of his thoughts, shared with permission.  It’s somewhat long but a nice recap of the adventure.

Cool video of Cliff driving (and dancing) on Limitless – Day 7 of 2016 Pac Cup
We caught Cliff dancing while driving during day 7 of the 2016 Pacific Cup on Limitless.  If you watch the entire video you can also see some good surfing moments.  We averaged 9-11 knots over the 9+ days we took to race to Hawaii.  Limitless is a fast Express 37.

Limitless finishes #1 in our division, 4th overall!
Aloha everyone!!!  If you’ve been tracking our progress, you may already know that Limitless crossed the finish line yesterday in Kaneohe Bay at 0936 PDT, finishing first in our division, 4th overall out of the entire fleet of boats, and possibly setting a new record for fastest PacCup finish for an Express 37.  Total race time for Limitless was 9d 22:11:54.
THANK YOU for all your support, cheers and encouragement!  It meant a ton to us to know that you were out there when we were racing.  We have a lot of pictures, video and stories to share and will be posting in the next week or so.

Home Stretch!

Ahoy! This update comes to you from land and not sea. The boat is a couple of days out and still having issues with their electronics, unable to catch weather reports and dealing with a wonky sat phone. Loved ones of crew members have been getting spotty messages that everyone is safe, spirits are high and they are continuing to race hard.
The delay on the tracker was released this morning so everyone gets to look at the race in real(ish) time here (free on the computer, not on phone or pad).
The boat remains first place in their division and is wrestling with a few boats out... see the full post
