Pacific Cup Update: Inspections, Equipment, Parties!

Please thank and support our generous sponsors.
MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY
No, it's not an emergency...it's just the first of May. Of course that joke
on the water is about as funny as saying "Hi Jack!" on an airplane these days.
But the truth is, it is May 1, which is the entry deadline and fees deadline for
the race. We've been calling our racers and, however we count it, this is the
strongest race we've had in years!
All of this, of course, does mean that we do, indeed need a little help.
Unlike many major races, the Pacific Cup is a primarily volunteer-run event.
From the frazzled cadre in California to the generous volunteers of Kaneohe, the
volunteer spirit pervades the race like a bowl of hibiscus in a thatched hut. As
we approach the start of the race, we find that a few areas can use a bit more
attention. These include locating a sponsor for the satellite tracking we'd so
like to have and, somewhat related, identifying a PR resource to help present
and coordinate the stories of the race for 2008 and beyond. Please feel free to
respond to this email or to contact any of the PCYC board members or volunteers
if you can help in these areas or would like to help out in any others.
Is it 2010 yet?
There's a new forum
topic up all about your feedback for the 2010 race. Hey, gotta think about
something during the 3am-5am watch!
Advance Notice: Secure, but movable, Generators allowed, White Flares not
required.
See the advice posted at the
website. Formal NOR revision will be out very shortly.
What's that? You want info on the ratings too?
Well, okay. The list of boats and their intended ratings method as of lastmonth is posted here.
At the bottom of the page in little tiny letters are links to how we expect to
calculate Pacific Cup Rating from PHRF
and ORR.
Don’t be late with your handicap certificates!!
NOR Section 6, Ratings and Certificates, says that "Any yacht failing to
submit a valid certificate by the deadline in paragraph 13 will be penalized ten
minutes of elapsed time for every day the valid certificate is late past the
deadline." (NOR Paragraph 13 is the place where the dates are and the date is
June 20, 2008.)
