Banding Tool
I'd like to order a basic banding tool kit to both satify the requirements adn have an nice repair tool for my boat. Can anyone suggest what specifically to order? After reviewing the online catalog at: http://www.band-it-idex.com/pdfs/2008_B-80_CATALOG.pdf
I'm concluding I should order the kit: BAND-IT® C27699 1/2" BAND BUCKLES &BAND-ING TOOL E (BAND-IT)
Is this what others have ordered?
Best price I've found is $425
Thanks

Banding Tool
Scott, the catalog breaks down the C27699 kit into parts that can be purchased separately for about a half. Go figure. I bought heavy-duty band-it tool, 100 pc buckle kit and half-inch band for about 250. It seems odd that that’s how they priced it. I found instructions very useful http://www.band-it-idex.com/pdfs/tools/P91687.pdf There is a similar instruction sheet for light-duty tool as well. Hope this helps,
Dmitry
Banding
Regular banding tensioners, having a flat bottom plate, don't work on round objects. It is not possible to achieve the required tension. Regular steel banding may not last long enough to be save.

Still Selling?
Bernard has also served as a seller of the Band-It tool. Are you still doing that?
Banding
Yes, I still sell the banding tools. I am exploring the availability of less costlier items that work the same way. It probably takes a larger order to accomplish that.

Better!
That's a much better price, of course. In addition, the technical committee is working on compiling a list of less hefty alternatives, but that still work.

Not all systems work. See my reply from 2009-08-25.

Wyliecat mast jury rigging
The Wyliecat mast is a hollow round carbon section. Our plan for jury rigging a broken mast is to cut the remaining section down to a length where the diameter allows it to be stuffed down into the center of the remaining stump after cutting the stump off near deck level. The resulting jury mast would sit on the original mast step and be supported by 4+ feet of carbon tubing before exiting the deck.
If banding equipment is required, we'll have it, but using it on round mast sections might be impossible without some method of keeping them from "rolling" as pressure is applied.

Wyliecat mast jury rigging
Pat, Great plan for rigging the mast, and I fully agree that a bandit is not the appropriate tool for this having sailed a wyliecat 39 in the last race. Obviously other factors could affect the boat that would require the use of the bandit tool. This is a great tool to have onboard with its many uses, relatively small, little space required to stow it, and best of all its quick to get in place when time is critical. Please see the repair job we did on the checkered Past… in Latitude 38 on the tiller for the last Pac Cup. If you are not familiar with how this works I would recommend breaking it out and using it to bandit anything before you really need to use it off shore. All the best,Grant
