Charters and Syndicates anyone?
It is quite possible the boat you conn may not be your own. Various boats, from TransPac 52's to One-Design 35's to venerable IOR's have been offered for charter -- some sailed to victory!
The benefits of chartering or syndication include less cash laid out and often the chance to take over a boat that is already set up for the race. In some cases, the owner may want the boat to live in Hawaii afterwards, so there is no problem about getting the boat home.
Sometimes, the owner may come along as a crew member. Compatibility is a must in such cases, but we know of a few first place trophies resting on the mantles of happy charterers in such circumstances.
Check out our new chartering list, or ask your sailmaker, buy a few drinks at your local yacht club. Opportunities may appear where you least expect them.
For our part, in addition to the ads section, we're working with a few insurance organizations to streamline access to appropriate insurance for the race.
